Karachi faces another power breakdown within 24 hours



KARACHI: Citizens in most parts of the city had to spend yet another sleepless Friday night without power twisting and turning in their beds as the city suffered second major breakdown within 24 hours.
Earlier, the metropolis city plunged into darkness after multiple grid stations of the K-Electric (KE) going offline and the same was restored yesterday evening after 12 hours of long breakdown.
Much to the misfortune of the people yet another major breakdown occurred after a light rain just after Iftar on Friday night throwing the city in pitch darkness and forcing the people to arrange their Sehri in candle light notwithstanding the suffocating hot and humid weather.

The widespread outage affected Saddar, Clifton, Garden, I.I. Chundrigar Road, Burns Road, Jamshed Town, Jacob Lines, New Town, Railway Colony, Defence, Clifton, Qayyumabad, Sultanabad, Cantt., Kemari, Landhi, Korangi, Malir, Quaidabad, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, North Karachi, Gulshan-e-Iqbal and several other areas in the city.

Polio case detected in Sindh







SANGHAR/KARACHI: The first case of poliovirus in any part of Sindh other than Karachi was detected in a 4-year-old resident of Sanghar.
All the seven cases confirmed earlier this year in Sindh were detected in Karachi alone.
The latest victim of the poliovirus was Rehmatullah, son of Mohammad Gul Brohi, who hailed from Dad Mohammad Brohi village, near Perumal town, according to Dr Durre Naz Jamal, deputy director of the expanded programme for immunisation in Sindh.
The child’s father said that no ‘proper’ immunisation had been carried out in his village.
He said he took his son to a doctor at a private hospital in Mirpurkhas after the child’s left leg and right arm turned very weak. The doctor sent a stool sample of the child for examination to Islamabad laboratory which confirmed the detection of the P-1 strain of poliovirus, Dr Alam Azad, a representative of the World Health Organisation in Sanghar confirmed.
After the polio case detection, a WHO team along with focal person of polio in the district Dr Tahir Kalyar and district health officer Dr Gul Hassan Magsi visited the village and collected details from the parents of the polio victim.
District officer Dr Shagufta told media that the child had been immunised, as the family had never been bracketed among the refusal cases. She said a proper investigation was under way to trace as to how the virus emerged there.
Earlier in 2011, a polio case had been reported in Sanghar district.

`Enforced disappearances` condemned





[DOKRI] Activists of the Jeay Sindh Qoumi Mahaz (JSQM – A) held a demonstration outside the press club in protest against alleged enforced disappearances of Shahid Junejo, Asghar Jamali, Zameer Khaskheli and others. JSQM leaders Siraj, Zaheer, Ruk Sindhi and Ahmed Ali Noonari demanded immediate release of missing activists.
They appealed to human rights organisations and the United Nations to take notice of operation against the nationalists of Sindh.
According to party workers, three activists Shahid Junejo, Asghar Jamali, Zameer Khaskheli picked up by FC from the Kalat, Balochistan on September 14, when they was going to Quetta from Karachi in local bus.
JSQM also announces protest march on 27 September for safe recovery of their activists.
Meanwhile, many other workers of nationalist organization JSMM also missing from many years. Nationalist party blamed ISI and other security agencies of Pakistan for abductions of their missing activists.

JSMM paid tribute to slain comrades

Jeay Sindh Muttahida Mahaz paid richest tribute to their slain leader Zamin Shah on the occasion of his Chehlum.
[Badani] Activists of JSMM gathered at Badani town of Kashmore, and lay floral wreaths at the grave of their colleague Zaman Shah, who was shot dead in Madhu village Karachi during fake encounter of police and rangers.
The JSMM blamed the law enforcement agencies for the fake encounter of their slain leaders Zamin Shah, Afzal Panhwar, Sobal Dahar and Yameen Chachar, saying its leaders were their homes after successful strike on August 14, 2013. Agencies first picked up them and then shot dead by police.
The activists of JSMM hoisteda flag of Sindhudesh, while some youths fired in the air.
Hafeez Sindhi, central member of JSMM’s coordination committee read out a massage of the party chairman Shafi Muhammad Burfat in which he said that he would take revenge of the brave activists who had been killed by law-enforcement agencies.
Mr Burfat appealed to the United Nations to play a role in stopping bloodshed of JSMM activists and ensure safe recovery of missing activists Allahi Bux Markhand, Ahmed Ali Chandio, Muhammad Ali Noonari, Zafar Noonari, Asghar Jamali, Shahid Junejo, Zamir Khaskheli and others picked by law enforcement agencies of Pakistan.
JSMM Senior Vice-Chairman Lala Aslam Pathan said that Sindh had been a slave for the past 66 years and it yearned for deliverance. `Punjab has usurped Sindh`s resources in the name of federation, ` he said.
JSMM Vice-Chairman Dr Zain Bhutto, General Secretary Sajjad Shar, Ramesh Kumar, Asif Juno and others also addressed the gathering.

(MQM) leader and former Sindh lawmaker Nadeem Hashmi has been freed

KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader and former Sindh lawmaker Nadeem Hashmi has been freed from police custody and acquitted Tuesday from all charges including killing of two policemen in Karachi last week.


A Joint Investigation Team (JIT), formed to probe charges against the MQM leader, has submitted their investigative report to the Inspector General Sindh Police declaring him not guilty.
According to sources, Hashmi has reached MQM headquarters “Nine-Zero” in Karachi following his acquittal.
An anti-terrorist court in Karachi on Thursday had ordered a seven- day-long physical remandof Hashmi.
MQM chief Altaf Hussain had condemned the arrest followed by a complete shutdown observed in the port cityand in some areas of Hyderabad on Wednesday last week.
Hashmi, in charge of the MQM’s North Nazimabad unit, was handed over to the police following the order of the ATC.
The former lawmaker was arrested for his alleged involvement in the Tuesday killing of two policemen in a North Nazimabad locality.
He was apprehended in a raid on his house and booked under the anti-terror law, killing of two policemen and snatching their official rifles.
The FIR was lodged on behalf of the state.
Nadeem Hidayat Hashmi, 49, was elected an MPA in a by-election following the death of Dr Mohammad Ali who won the 2008 election from a provincial assembly seat (PS-103) in North Nazimabad.

Kashmore: The father of deceased Zamin Ali Shah the leader of central committee of JSMM, who was killed in Madhu village Karachi by security forces has said that If I have to sacrifice all my sons for the freedom of Sindh, I will do.

 I am feeling proud on martyrdom of my son for the noble cause of freedom. My son hassacrificed his love for freedom of Sindh.
He further said that, I handover all my sons to JSMM Chairman Shafi Muhammad Burfat for the national movement for freedom. My son has raised my head by giving his life while saving the land and honor of Mother Sindh.
Police and Rangers have started a new episode of tyrannies. Our sons are arrested and are murdered in extra-judicial killings. He said, there isn’t any criminal case on Zamin, but there is any in any police station of Sindh, It must be shown on media.

Gunmen kill lyari amun committee leader zafar baloch



Karachi: Unknown gunmen killed leader of proscribed Lyari Amn Committee Zafar Baloch and injured another on Wednesday.

According to Geo News, eight gunmen on four motorcycles sprayed Zafar Baloch’s vehicle with bullets at Lyari’s Bizenjo Chowk and managed to flee.
The injured was identified as Muhammad Ali, who was travelling with the deceased. Baloch received bullet in his chest which proved fatal.
Tension gripped Lyari and adjacent areas following the killing of Zafar Baloch.
SSP Fasal Bashir Memon said that heavy contingent of police and Rangers were deployed in Lyari following the incident.
Pakistan People's Party (PPP) MPA from Lyari Sania Naz condemned the killing of Zafar Baloch.
The assassination comes amid Rangers and police targeted operation in Karachi weeks after the government decided to purge the metropolis of criminals.

New York : United Nations Secretary- General Ban Ki -moon said in a report next week, the Syrian government's use of chemical weapons against the rebels will complete the verification process .
